Bigelow Green Tea Review

An avid tea fan for more than twenty years, I’ve consumed many boxes of Bigelow Green Tea over the past decade. Bigelow green tea is among the best I’ve sampled. I like its clear, light green appearance with almost no bitterness. It sweetens well with stevia, and for a name brand tea, Bigelow is not too expensive, easy to find, and it stock piles well.

  • Found almost everywhere . Bigelow green tea has become nearly ubiquitous in recent years. So it is thus available at most any grocery store for a reasonable price. You can even see it in some health food stores.
  • Individually sealed teabags . Tea bags are individually and tightly wrapped for freshness; so tightly in fact, that no green tea aroma is present in or around the box. They stay fresh, even when removed from the box.
  • Very long shelf life . This green tea keeps for years without appreciable flavor distortion.
  • Promotes healthy nail growth . Any green tea, including Bigelow, seems to make my fingernails grow faster and healthier. Not that I really care about faster-growing nails. But this could signify that I’m absorbing more of the nutrients from the green tea required by my body for proper operation. This I like.
  • Might reduce acne . Some bloggers have written that green teas like Bigelow reduce acne. But since I suffer no acne, I cannot personally verify this claim.
  • Premium green tea . Bigelow is a typical green tea in that so many other brands taste a lot like it. It seems that many have mastered the art of growing delicious green tea now. The art of green tea preparation is now quite mature.
  • No bitterness . But the lack of bitterness that is so often found in other green teas, distinguishes Bigelow 100% natural green tea from these others. Caffeine levels in this green tea seem to match that in other brands I’ve tried.
  • Controls hunger . I’ve used Bigelow green tea as an appetite suppressant during diets. It seems to work at least as well as a diet pill in fact.
  • Encourages healthy weight . Facilitates weight loss in my experience, due to its thermogenic properties. It revs up the body’s metabolism. However, be careful, as this can actually make you feel hungrier at times. Still though, when I’m seriously dieting, and that knee-weakening hunber appears, I can often quell it by drinking a glass of Bigelow green tea.
  • Easily sweetened . Bigelow green tea sweetens up very well when stevia is added. Stevia sweetens this tea without destroying the signature yet highly delicate green tea flavor that I’ve learned to savor so much.

Disadvantages, Cons, Problems, and Concerns

  • Costs more . At $2.12 for 44 tea bags, Bigelow green tea is a bit higher per serving than the one-hundred bags of Prince of Peace Premium Green Tea I reviewed recently, which cost $3.27 per box. However, the more air-tight bag wrapping used by Bigelow better ensures a fresher-tasting cup of green tea. So this added cost may be worth while.
  • Can stain teeth . My dental hygienist knows I drink green tea just from the stains she notes on them at each visit. However, I believe the health benefits of drinking green tea to be worth the inconvenience of slightly-harder-to-clean teeth.
  • Has some caffeine . Particularly when I’ve not taken Bigelow green tea for some days, I can feel dizzy when I again consume it; especially when riding in a car after drinking it. It can make me feel quite nauseous when I’m out of practice drinking it.
  • Withdrawal symptoms . Also, in my experience, if I stop drinking this green tea altogether, a headache will surely ensure in a day or two, and last a day or two as well. So if you start drinking Bigelow green tea daily, be cautious about stopping this habit abruptly, as you may develop headache symptoms as well.
  • Flavor easily covered up . Honey, when used to sweeten Bigelow green tea can completely cover up the green tea flavor if you add too much. The green tea flavor is easily destroyed by flavored sweeteners such as honey, molasses, or maple syrup.
  • Non organic .

Product Rating

So I’d recommend this green tea product overall, and rate it accordingly at 96 out of 100.
